3CR International Women's Day

In 2017 for IWD we bring you 24 hours of radio featuring the talent of women broadcasters that make up 3CR including transwomen, indigenous women, women of colour, queer women and women from different ages and abilities. This year we are celebrating with a special LIVE Wednesday Breakfast Show. Come down to the station at 21 Smith Street, Fitzroy, from 7 - 8.30am to be part of the live audience and to enjoy a light breakfast in the 3CR courtyard. Check out the program grid.

No Homelessness Ban 2017
The mainstream media, and in particular the Herald Sun, are running a campaign to demonise those experiencing homelessness, using labels like "professional beggars". Lord Mayor Robert Doyle is expected to take a proposal to Melbourne City Council on 28 February to ban people sleeping in the Council area. If you want to hear about this issue from people who have experienced homelessness, tune in to Roominations on Thursdays at noon or listen back anytime.

For progressive people around the world it's been a crap start to the year. Trump is rolling out his racist agenda, inspiring increased racial, religious and gender-based hatred across the globe. It really is time to rally together to fight for a better world. There is power in numbers, and there is power in independent, community-run media. Join the swelling number of people fighting back by becoming a member of your radical, activist radio station. Show us your love and subscribe to 3CR.

Treaty Now

Tune in to 3CR's annual Invasion Day broadcast on Thursday 26 January and hear the truth about Australia's colonial past and present, and the ongoing struggle for a First Nations Treaty. Join 3CR's indigenous broadcasters Robbie Thorpe from Fire First, Viv Malo from The Black Block and others for commentary, interviews, music, and updates from rallies and actions across the country on Thursday 26 January from 11-4pm.

Tunnerminnerwait and Maulboyheenner 2017

Tune in from 12 midday on Friday 20 January for a live broadcast from the Tunnerminnerwait and Maulboyheenner commemoration. It's 175 years since the execution of the two Freedom Fighters: Tunnerminnerwait and Maulboyheenner. Executed on 20 January 1842, the site on the corner of Franklin and Victoria Streets is now marked with a memorial. From midday on 20 January the Tunnerminnerwait and Maulboyheenner Commemoration Committee will hold a public ceremony to honour the indigenous men, women and children who, during the colonisation process, were killed for protecting their lands, their families, their culture and a way of life they had practised for over 40,000 years. Join the crowd from midday, or listen in to the live broadcast from 12 - 1pm.

Black Gold 1970s

Black Gold is a 5-part series that digs deep through the 3CR archive to present ... Black Gold. We take listeners from the 1970s right through to the present day with a look at how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander broadcasters at 3CR covered some incredible community events and significant political struggles. We’ll attend a land rights meeting in 1978, celebrate the life of broadcaster Lisa Bellear, and hear about the successes of the campaign to save Northlands Secondary College. We’ll also reflect back on the anti-Bicentenary actions in 1988 and get up-to-date with the ongoing struggle for sovereignty and treaty. Tune in each Wednesday from 7-8am for Black Gold.
