3CR has decided to close its doors to volunteers and guests from Monday 23 March as we try to do our part to minimise the spread of the coronavirus throughout the community. At the front of our minds, is protecting the most marginalised and vulnerable. But we are still here. And we’ll continue broadcasting, 24 hours a day, with radical, alternative content throughout this period – but things will sound a bit different. Some programmers will present their shows on the phone, and we’ll be finding creative ways to bring you our regular programming. So stay tuned, stay safe, and be kind to each other. 

Diaspora Blues is a new show that provides a platform for people interested in ideas about home, community, and belonging. Hosted by Bigoa and Baasto and produced by Ayan Shirwa. Tune in for the first show, Monday 2 March at 2.30pm, featuring Ruth Nyaruot Ruach speaking about her platform ‘Next in Colour’ and the work they’re doing to create opportunities for artists from the African diaspora. We'll also discuss the challenges of being a third culture kid.

The start of 2020 heralded catastrophic conditions for communities and the natural environment right across Australia. It is devastating to see the direct impact of years of government inaction on climate change together with the extreme corporate greed. Now is the time to stand up and fight against ecological genocide. In 2020, 3CR marks Invasion Day with special programming and live coverage of the Melbourne rally. Across seven hours, our programming will reveal the real history of Australia, cover local and interstate events and rallies, demand justice and celebrate the survival and culture of Aboriginal people. Tune in this Monday 20 January for a live broadcast at 12 noon from the commemoration of the two freedom fighters - Tunnerminnerwait and Maulboyheenner - who were executed 178 years ago.

The Tunnerminnerwait and Maulboyheenner Commemoration Committee will hold a public ceremony to honour all indigenous people who have suffered under the ongoing colonisation process. Join the commemoration at the Tunnerminnerwait & Maulboyheenner monument on the corner of Victoria and Franklin Streets, Melbourne.

The idea that as human beings we have universal and inalienable rights has been internationally recognised since the birth of the United Nations in the mid-20th Century. But how effective has this idea actually been? Additionally, in what ways does the regime, created by and in the interests of the US (and western imperialism), actually uphold the power structures and inequalities it claims to fight against? On 10 December for Human Rights Day, Tuesday Breakfast will reflect on these questions between 7 - 8.30am. They'll unpack the history of human rights, explore just how effective they are, and discuss issues of unequal access between states in the Global North and Global South.
