Melbourne Community Radio poster 1975

TODAY (Friday 10 October 2025) marks 50 years since 3CR Community Radio (Community Radio Federation) gained its licence! After years of agitating, organising and advocating, we successfully applied for what was then a ‘restricted commercial licence’ under the provision of the Broadcasting and Television Act. Full-time broadcasting kicked off the following year (1976) in early July. So save the date now - we’re celebrating 50 years on air on Saturday 4 July 2026 with an event at the Collingwood Town Hall.

Become a 3CR Regular Donor

Will you help 3CR by becoming a Regular Donor during September? A Regular Donor is someone who loves 3CR so much that they set up an automatic donation on the same day every month. This helps provide us with a stable foundation. If we know we can count on your donation every month, it means we can better plan and resource our broadcasting. 3CR is determined to stay independent, this means we DON’T rely on corporate sponsorship or government funding. We serve our community, not corporate interests. By becoming a Regular Donor, you can help us stay resilient and radical. Together, we can keep independent voices on air!

Meg Butler

We are pleased to announce that after an extensive recruitment process, Meg Butler has been appointed by the Committee of Management as 3CR Station Manager. Meg brings significant community radio and management experience to the role, as well as a personal commitment to the station that spans more than 20 years. She has also been Acting Station Manager at 3CR since January this year, so is up to speed and ready to help plan for our 50th birthday celebrations next year and for our continued success in the future.

Congratulations Meg!
