Beyond the Bars 2015

Tune in to Beyond the Bars in 2015 to hear Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander prisoners on the airwaves. The project features radio shows broadcast live from six Victorian prisons during NAIDOC Week 6-10 July 2015. ‘The main purpose of these broadcasts,’ explains Koori Survival Show broadcaster Gilla McGuinness, ‘is to connect our people in the prison system back to family and culture on the outside during NAIDOC Week.’ Download the poster. This year marks the 173rd anniversary of the execution of the two Freedom Fighters: Tunnerminnerwait & Maulboyheenner. They were executed on 20 January 1842 on the corner of Bowen & Franklin Streets Melbourne. 3CR will again be broadcasting the commemoration LIVE on Tuesday 20 January from 12 - 1pm on 855AM, digital and streaming.

Breaking The Chains

Join this free public event on UN Human Rights Day on Wednesday 10 December to advocate for the human rights of people with mental health issues. The program will include a screening of the documentary Breaking the Chains (Director, Dr Erminia Colucci), music by various artists, presentations and a panel discussion dedicated to human rights in mental health. This event is being supported by 3CR’s Brainwaves and the Mental Illness Fellowship.
