The People's Record: Race, Policing and Public Housing, is a documentary narrative podcast series by The Centre Against Racial Profiling for 3CR, hosted by Idil Ali. Idil is a proud Somali woman who grew up in the Carlton flats. Idil embeds her belief in freedom, sovereignty and resistance in this podcast as she moves from the role of narrator to sharing lived experiences with her guests.
Through interviews with public housing community members, lawyers, storytellers, community organisers and Aboriginal activists, this series documents fifteen years of policing, resistance and the survival of Naarm’s inner city flats. From The Haile-Michael Settlement, Covid-19 Hard Lockdowns, to the current 44 Tower demolition project, this podcast tells stories from the East African community and their experiences of Police and State violence.
Produced by Ilo Diaz and Lucy Griffin.
