Homelessness is now a modern scourge as Governments withdraw from public housing. Bendigo St, Collingwood Melbourne house occupiers were ousted by police and security guards during the Melbourne Cup holiday period and the Herald Sun denigrated the Homeless Person Union as mere violent rabble. Meanwhile an action group against privatisation of public housing stock in Victoria are taking preemtive action against a formal announcement that the Labour Government wants to off-load 70% of public housing to private management.
