Interviews and Discussion

Discussion with Sydney based Green Left writer Jim McIlroy about the aged care royal commission. McIlroy summarises the findings of the report which outlines poor leadership and profiteering in the private aged care sector coupled with understaffing and poor pay for workers. Four key union demands to overhaul the sector are also outlined. You can listen to the individual interview here.

Content warning below: mention of sexual assault, sexism etc.

Discussion with Geelong based Green Left writer and union organiser Sarah Hathway about how the ongoing prevalence of gendered violence is a 'disease in our workplaces'. Hathway argues that restrictions on union organising, and broad economic discrimination on the basis of gender, undergird the culture of sexist behaviour and harassment that needs to be fought not just in parliament workers offices, but in all workplaces. Hathway also points to the work of Vic Trades Hall in treating gendered violence and harassment as an OHS issue which worksafe should be tackling as part of the way forward, and gives a plug to the upcoming International Womens Day marches and March 15 national day of action. You can listen to the individual interview here.
