Amelia from Campaign Against Racism and Fascism/CARF joined us with a reminder about this coming Saturday's snap rally to protest the far right in Sunshine. This anti-fascist counter-rally has been called in resistance against the National Socialist Network organising a "White Power Lifting Meet" at Sunshine's Legacy Boxing Gym. CARF has asked rally attendees to meet at the Sunshine West IGA car park to stand in solidarity against fascist recruitment and continue to build the movement against the far right.//
Michael Kaine, National Secretary of the Transport Workers' Union, spoke with us about the urgent need for labour protections for transport gig workers, including ride-share and food delivery workers. Our conversation today comes in the wake of the tragic road death of another food delivery worker in Sydney over the past weekend, the 12th food delivery driver known to have been killed in Australia since 2017, though numbers are likely underreported. An April 2023 report by the McKell Institute documenting the experiences of over 1,000 transport gig workers in Australia has outlined pressing concerns faced by these workers regarding low pay, unstable working conditions, and workplace hazards - you can read it here.
