Teachers in Colour

Monday, 7 September 2026 - 10:30am to 11:00am

Teachers in Colour explores race, identity and education through the eyes of racialised migrant teachers working in the Australian school system. In this episode, co-hosts Nisha Thapliyal, Aaron Teo and Priya Kunjan discuss the origins of the series, drawing on Nisha and Aaron’s expertise as education researchers and teacher-educators. This conversation provides a foundation for some of the key themes in Teachers in Colour, including the politics of knowledge transmission in Australian education, the implications of a statistical underrepresentation of racialised migrant teachers in increasingly diverse schools, and the importance of hearing directly from teachers about experiences of navigating power and difference in their professional lives.
