Teachers in Colour explores race, identity and education through the eyes of racialised migrant teachers working in the Australian school system. In this episode, co-hosts Nisha Thapliyal, Aaron Teo and Priya Kunjan discuss the origins of the series, drawing on Nisha and Aaron’s expertise as education researchers and teacher-educators. This conversation provides a foundation for some of the key themes in Teachers in Colour, including the politics of knowledge transmission in Australian education, the implications of a statistical underrepresentation of racialised migrant teachers in increasingly diverse schools, and the importance of hearing directly from teachers about experiences of navigating power and difference in their professional lives. Later in the episode, Gomeroi education researcher Professor Nikki Moodie speaks about the politics embedded in the Australian curriculum.
