Part one of Interview with Seamalu Elora Raymond about lawsuit against trump administration over plans to lease pacific waters for deep sea mining.

Activist Seamalu Elora Raymond is part of the community organisation Fa’asao Amerika Samoa, which strives to protect America Samoa indigenous culture, traditions, beliefs and the environment.

Trumps administration wants to lease 125 million square metres of sea for deep sea mining from November 19th for 20 years. We discussed the environmental impacts and the effects it will have on marine life, and the creatures held sacred for America Samoans. The council of conservation of Hawaii is also taking legal action, as the mining will have mass effect on many of the islands in the area.

Part two of interview with Seamalu Elora Raymond.

In the second half of our interview we discussed AI Data Centres and the minerals the US will be mining, many of the materials used to build, power and create these centres being found on the seabed.

Elora talks about the domino effect this will have on the rest of the world if the US’s proposals are approved. It creates fears that a global race as the flux of data centres rises to use the ocean to power these data centres. We discussed whether so called Australia may follow suit, as they are wanting to build 90 more data centres, and how China is already using the sea to cool down their data centres, rising sea temperatures.
