Episode 5: Teaching for change

Monday, 5 October 2026 - 10:30am to 11:00am

Making every student feel seen and heard is indispensable in shaping the capabilities of young learners. Many racialised migrant teachers understand what it is to be simultaneously invisible and stereotyped in the Australian education system. In this episode, we focus our attention on the intellectual, cultural and pedagogical expertise that racialised migrant teachers and teacher educators bring to their teaching practice. No subject or body of knowledge is treated as neutral – these educators speak about cultural difference instead of ‘colour-blindness’ as the norm. You’ll hear interviewees sharing reflections about how their teaching philosophy and practice create spaces for nuanced, critical conversations about identity, cultural heritage, racialisation and belonging.
