Emilie Owens, the Australian Education Union (AEU) is a sub-branch president at Parkville College. Parkville College is a specialist government Victorian school that provides tailored, year-round education to vulnerable young people detained in youth justice custodial facilities or secure care settings. Freya Dinshaw is an Associate Legal Director from the Human Rights Law Centre where she specialises in corporate accountability. Julia recently interviewed Freya about the modern slavery laws that were announced in Australia back in 2018 but have been recently strengthened by introducing criminal punishment holding those who violate the laws accountable. This is in order to prevent labour that violates human rights within the supply chain, preventing Australian traders.
