On Saturday 22 August, there was a public meeting and discussion about the historic 1986 Nurses Strike in Victoria held at Balam Balam Place in Brunswick. On today's program we'll be hearing from two of the speakers from that event. First up this morning we'll be playing a speech by Irene Bolger, who was a registered nurse for 20 years, and first worked at the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation before being elected secretary.

Allie is a CPSU delegate and bargaining rep. Last Friday, hundreds of Arts Centre workers walked off the job in their first strike action ever. The strike coincided with a planned performance by Macy Gray. The strike was accompanied by a rally outside Hamer Hall. Allie is here to share the current conditions faced by arts centre workers and provide an update on how Friday's actions went. Sue Bolton is a Merri-bek councillor and community activist. Sue joins us today to speak about the Sydney Road Accessible Tram Stops campaign, which is calling for permanent accessible tram stops along Sydney Road. This call comes as the area prepares for the closure of the Upfield train line, to facilitate the removal of level crossings and construct the Skyrail. We discuss why pertinence of this campaign in the lead up to this major project and whether Sydney Road's current tram stops are in line with anti-discrimination legislation. Vivienne is back on Tuesday Breakfast today to discuss recent actions taken in the campaign to save public housing and a petition that has been taken to Parliament, and the response so far from election candidates.
