3CR is currently hosting 10 community broadcasters from Timor-Leste (East Timor). The group are here as part of a program run by the Asia Pacific Journalism Centre and funded through AusAID’s Australian Leadership Awards Fellowships Program.

The group have spent time at 3CR to experience community engagement first-hand, and to produce radio features on the Timor-Leste Diaspora in Melbourne for broadcast on their stations back home.

Beyond the Bars is Australia’s only live prison broadcast and this year is expanded to involve over 100 Indigenous men and women from the inside sharing stories, songs, opinions and poems from within the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre, Barwon Prison, Fulham Correctional Centre, Marngoneet Correctional Centre, Loddon Prison and Port Phillip Prison.

Australia holds one of the most concentrated corporatised media landscapes in the world, and in the past year we have seen the fruits born of a system that prioritises shareholder return over the needs of the community.

Every Thursday evening from 7:30pm – 8pm Melbourne's Chin community broadcast via 3CR 855AM, 3CR Digital and online via 3cr.org.au. Chin Radio presents community news, news from Chinland, community activities, interviews, Chin music and culture, and is the first Chin community radio show in Australia.

Tune in during NAIDOC Week to hear Indigenous men and women in the Victorian prison system join in the community celebrations. As part of the Beyond the Bars project 3CR presents live radio shows from 4 - 8 July.
