The proposed housing reforms in Victoria...? avoiding the real reasons for the crisis...

Friday, 6 October 2023 - 10:00am to 10:30am

Jacques talks with Dr Kate Shaw, an urban geographer at the University of Melbourne, about the 'bombshell' announcement for an overhaul of social housing by outgoing Premier Dan Andrews.

Again: lots of tinkering at the edges of the 'problem'... trying not to antagonise the real estate industry and those who really benefit from the 'crisis' ... and even get the 'Murdoch-cracy' and Nine-Entertainment and 'Domain' echo-chambers up in arms... So, no additional public housing... but selling off public land to 'developers'... no real attempt to control or even moderate rent increases... big talk about the 'inadequacy' of the removal and replacement of the existing public housing towers (which will momentarily worsen the availability of public/social housing...) An end to Neo-liberalism delayed for a few decades... again...
