Australia's constitutional monarchy and becoming a republic - what are we waiting for?

Friday, 24 June 2022 - 10:00am to 10:30am

The new Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, has re-opened the conversation about Australia becoming a republic, with the appointment of an Assistant Minister for the Republic.

Jennifer and Jacques have a look at our current system of constitutional monarchy, and they comment on how different it is to the system we think we have. In our constitution, the monarch (the queen), represented by the Governor General, certainly presides over our government, with ministers (who we vote for) positioned as advisors.

The republic can't come too soon!

Friday 10:00am to 10:30am
Think Again offers weekly conversations and reflections about current events, trends and public pronouncements on contemporary and emerging issues. The show moves beyond what we read and hear via the public and ‘social’ media, to invite alternative possibilities to guide our thinking, living and organising.
