The Other September 11: Chile

Saturday, 12 September 2026 - 10:00am to 2:00pm

Chile 53 years (1973-2026) special commemoration radio program, from 10am to 2pm on 12th of September.

A special programing has been organised to commemorate the 53 years since the civil-military coup of the U.S.-backed Coup d’état in Chile (11 September 1973).

This year marks 53 years since the overthrow of the democratically elected popular government in Chile by a violent military coup backed by the United States administration, which killed President Salvador Allende and imposed a repressive government. That date changed Chile and meant the mass exile of 1000s of Chileans alongside our history of resistance, struggle, and solidarity. We remember those who lost their lives in the struggle for a better world, reflect on recent events in Chile, such as the social uprising of October 2019, and look to the future of struggle.

The Chilean people are still fighting for real democracy and better conditions of living, which have not improved even under successive so-called: “democratic” governments. Today, in 2026, we have a far-right government that is taking away all the rights won by workers. The United States again wants to steal our natural resources and subjugate our people. Tune in to 3CR Community Radio; we're going to talk about our history, remember those who have fallen, been murdered, and disappeared, and also about the struggles of our people, indigenous communities, workers, student, womens who still resist.

Our memory is alive… Our struggle continues.
