Alex K / Rotations 2 / Franco Battiato Tribute Show

Sunday, 13 June 2021 - 2:00pm to 3:00pm

I'm Alex K, I co-present and produce a show called the Greek Resistance Bulletin on Tuesdays at 10:00pm. We cover news about Greek politics, social movements and the extra-parliamentary left.

My shows on Rotations are an enjoyable self-indulgence in that I try not to restrict myself to explicitly political and Greek music that I would normally play on GRB.

I'm into all sorts of fuzzy/lo-fi/weird/sounds from and influenced by underground movements from the late 60s onwards. These movements breathed the same fumes as the long waves of class, political and social struggle so what I play is political but maybe indirectly.

This program is a mini-tribute to Francesco "Franco" Battiato, legendary Italian singer-songwriter, composer, and filmmaker who passed away on the 18th May 2021. Focusing on a small part of his decades-long music career, we move through tracks by and associated with Battiato spanning from the sixties' musica leggera, to experimental electronic sounds inspired by the 1969 Hot Autumn strikewave in Italy, pop tracks from his mid-seventies group Telaio Magnetico, and others.
