Lalitha Chelliah is a long-time unionist and organiser of the strike, nurse for 50 years, socialist and feminist. Lalitha wrote the first manual about handling regulations for the Victorian health industry in the early 90s, and worked as an organiser for the old Public Services Union. She also moved the motion to go on strike in 1985. In the following excerpt, Lalitha spoke about the significance of the 50-day strike in a broader, international context.
