Free Kanaky Solidarity Naarm on French Colonisation, Anti-Poverty Advocacy 'Our Side of The Street' Magazine, Cycling Hazard Awareness, Climate Documentary 'The World According to my Dad'

7:15AM // Sarah from Free Kanaky Solidarity Naarm is a settler from France living on Wurundjeri Country. Phuong interviews Sarah about the ongoing impacts of French colonisation upon Kanaky, and the struggle for liberating justice. Sarah speaks about a webinar hosted by Free Kanaky Solidarity Naarm, in collaboration with the Black Peoples Union and Sisters Inside. On Friday 24th October 6pm, a panel of speakers from the aforementioned organisations and activists from Kanaky will speak about incarceration and colonisation for an evening of solidarity, truth-telling, sharing and learning.

8:00AM // Melissa is an artist and anti-poverty advocate living in Adelaide on Kaurna country. She joined Breadline on 22nd of September to talk about the barriers implemented by the welfare system that stopped her getting a carers payment between the ages twelve to eighteen, despite being a full-time carer to her mother, and her journey toward advocacy with The Antipoverty Centre, Anti-Poverty Network SA, and the AU Unemployed Workers' Union. She also puts a callout for volunteer submissions for her new grassroots project: the 'Our Side of The Street' magazine. Community submissions are welcome, at oursideofthestreetmag@gmail.com


7:45AM // On YarraBUG Radio, Chris spoke to Ellen Sandell, a Victorian Greens Leader, local Melbourne MP about cycling hazards and dangers on Macaulay Road in Kensington. This follows the tragic death of 19-year old cyclist Will Ritcher on the corner of Macaulay and Rankin Roads on the 22 September. Ellen spoke to Chris about the need for the urgent instalment of separated bike lanes on Macaulay Road as well as a a review of the dangerous intersection. You can listen to the full interview here

8:00AM // Marta Kovářova is a Czech director and musician who directed the documentary "The World According to my Dad".  Marta speaks about the documentary, which follows her father Jiri a passionate physicist who advocates for world leaders to implement a global carbon tax upon fossil fuel usage in order to tackle climate change. The pair of them engage in song and creative methods to protest for this. The documentary was aired at the Environmental film festival which runs until 23rd of October and can be streamed online.
