To Vienna with love - Notes from the first nuclear ban treaty meeting

Saturday, 2 July 2022 - 10:00am to 10:30am
A large number of people holding two banners in front of a cruise ship - the peace boat - which has ICAN written on side with the ICAN logo. One yellow banner on left reads "Don't nuke the climate" and a larger white banner on the right reads "Sign the nuclear weapons ban treaty". Most people are standing behind the banners, there is one man in a wheel chair between the banners, and one child standing in front.

A discussion from one of ICAN’s Nuclear Ban hubs, an event featuring experts from on the ground at the landmark first meeting of states parties to the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.

This one was hosted by Womens International League for peace and freedom or WILPF, in Meanjin / Brisbane on June 22nd. The event was facilitated by ICAN Australia Director Gem Romuld, Campaigner Jemila Rushton and ICAN Founder Dimity Hawkins, who spoke with Ray Acheson, the director of Reaching Critical Will, the disarmament program of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, and Rico Ishii Robertson, a third generation hibakusha, or nuclear bomb survivor, from Peace Boat Japan.
