September 21, 2026 marks the 54th anniversary of the martial law declaration in the Philippines under the US-Marcos Sr. Dictatorship overthrown by the Filipino people in 1986. This year also marks the first anniversary of the anti-corruption protests that erupted a year ago over the flood control scandal and widespread corruption that exposed the systemic rot endemic in the bureaucrat capitalist system under the US-Marcos Jr. Regime. The first speech is by chairperson for AnakBayan Melbourne; Sunday. In an impassioned bilingual speech, Sunday calls out the various atrocities both historic and ongoing by the US-Marcos Junior regime. She recites some of the names of those massacred in Toboso, Negros in May dubbed as the “Negros 19 massacre.” We have previously covered speeches from that rally on this show so do check out our website if you wish to listen to previous episodes. Here is Sunday, speaking at the 21st September rally at State Library Victoria, Melbourne. In the next half of the show, we listen to Pipin, an Indonesian activist from Melbourne Bergerak. Pipin spoke at the rally and drew stark parallels between the struggles in Indonesia and Philippines. She noted how both states shared the same tools of oppression, such as violent crackdowns on protesters, activists, and human rights defenders in an effort to curb the growing opposition against corrupt and unjust governments. Pipin’s closing words reminds us that ‘never again’ isn’t just about remembering what happened before, but to keep confronting what continues to oppress us today.
