In April, France saw the far-right party leader receive a large portion of the vote in the presidential election albeit with the lowest voter turnout since 1969. This week we discuss French politics ahead of the second round of legislative elections which chooses representatives to parliament on June 19.

To discuss these issues within a broader context of global capitalism we’re joined by Dr Rachel Bloul, who is a social scientist formerly from the ANU. Her fields of expertise are immigration politics, global politics and genocide studies. After living in Australia for 40 years, she returned to a changed France seven years ago and shares some of her insights into the political landscape and argues for a need for a different political language for collective struggle.
