'An End To Prisons'‏

Monday, 1 June 2015 - 8:30am to 9:00am

Aboriginal advocate for incarcerated women, former prisoner and pioneer Vickie Roach speaks of her experiences with the prison system and how institutionalisation is imposed on Aboriginal women at a young age.

We also hear from Emma Russell from Flat Out. Emma explains how the process of strip searching women in prison is seen as counter-productive and triggering for many incarcerated women with history of sexual violence. We also look at what prison abolition would look like in an Australian context.
