Putting SexC into Transmission

Putting SexC into Transmission

Living with HIV can be a highly stigmatising. Add to that another highly infectious virus in Hep C - a virus that in some ways carries a greater stigma to it than HIV. To coincide with World Hepatitis Day (July 28), documentary producer Peter Davis, was commissioned by Living Positive Victoria and Hepatitis Victoria to create a feature about HIV and Hepatitis C Coinfection. Airing on Thursday night, August 6 at 12:30am-1:30am.

Davis’ initial interest in the project was largely influenced by his past work in producing and hosting community radio programs, such as Positively Primed on 3CR. As an openly bisexual and HIV positive man, Davis has been championing the lived experience of HIV in the community since the mid-1980s. In the new feature, Davis interviews leading Gastroenterologist & Hepatologist, Dr David Iser, Community Support Services Coordinator at Hepatitis Victoria, Garry Sattell, and also has two very open conversations with Dean Camilleri who recently cleared Hepatitis C and Joel Murray, who has been living with both viruses since 2010. CONTENT WARNING: The program contains discussions around high risk sex practices and drug use. For marginalised communities this is an important health message about the transmission of Hep C. In sharing this information the program contains strong language and explicit discussion of a sexual nature that some people may find confronting.
