Simon Strong & Sönke Rickertson are a duo with deep musical history, and they've just released their first album together: The Bastardizer's Beautiful Record - a title rich with meaning.
The pair have been musical soulmates for many years, both cutting their teeth in the Pink Stainless Tail, a band named after a Red Krayola song from 1967. Over three albums, the Pink Stainless Tail built a reputation for wild, confrontational live shows. The lineup featured Nick Boddinton on bass and guitarist Harry Howard; when Howard departed, the band eventually split.
A few years later, Strong and Rickertson reunited in Ekranoplans alongside Aaron Goldberg and Stefan Schutt. The group released two albums of hard-rocking, psychedelic, dub-infused music before parting ways due to musical differences.
Since then, Simon has released a couple of spoken-word albums as The Bastardizer, while Sönke - who also played in the legendary experimental noise band Slub - continues performing live with The Ramifications.
Now the two have come full circle. The Bastardizer's Beautiful Record is out now on 180-gram vinyl, CD, and digital download via Simon Strong's Bandcamp page. The release features twelve folk-inspired songs.
