Musical talent clearly runs in the Tolhurst family. Dr. Gonzo first discovered guitarist Kerryn Tolhurst through the iconic Australian band The Dingoes. Now, Kerryn’s daughter, Rebecca Tolhurst, is following in her father’s footsteps, entertaining music lovers with live shows across Melbourne and Central Victoria.
When Dr. Gonzo parked his VW van—doubling as a mobile recording studio—outside Rebecca’s home in Ballarat, she warmly welcomed him to record her track-by-track introductions for the album Pope Joan by Bec and Colin. Originally recorded some 21 years ago with her former musical partner Colin Badger (who also plays guitar in Painters and Dockers), the album has now been sonically revived with the help of legendary producer David Briggs.
This edition of And This One’s Introduced By… is the second episode in the Goldfields Series, a collection of artist-led stories spotlighting regional talents like Doc Henry, Mandy Connell, David Thrussell—and in this episode, Rebecca Tolhurst.
Rebecca began taking her songwriting and singing seriously in the early ’90s, honing her craft through choir work and collaborations with respected musicians including Paul Hester, Cyndi Boste, Paulie Stewart, and the Dili Allstars.
She’s  been described as having the soul of a punk and the voice of a folkie with gospel leanings, paired with a raw and vitriolic lyrical style. 

She currently plays in a 3 piece goth / folk / punk trio Seemingly Random Surprises playing at the Goldfields Gothic, Festival of Dark Ideas in Maldon this weekend.
