Dr Gonzo & Wayne Gillespie on 3CR

Kiwi expat Wayne Gillespie has been making quality music in New Zealand and Australia since his first album Wayward Son in 1984 followed by his second, New locations in 1987 and released by CBS records.

Now based in Sydney he’d released the third album Living In Exile that was recorded with a local community of Australasian musicians such as Dave Dobyn, Margaret Urlich, Amanda Brown (Go-Betweens) and Dave Sparks (Saints). This album was produced by Nigel Gavin, a multi-instrumentalist who played with Robert Fripp.

Wayne has shared the stage live supporting Suzanne Vega, Chris Whitley, Stan Ridgeway Colin Hay, Ed Keupper and many more.

He found some time to complete a psychology degree at Macquarie University. His thesis ’The Personality Of Rock Musicians’ was published in the UK journal of Music Psychology which led him combining songwriting and performing with working arts as a counselling  psychologist to those in the creative arts field.

He released an acoustic album Live At The Bunker in 2006 with long time associate guitar wizard Nigel Gavin.
Wayne Gillespie’s latest release with drummer Rob Grosser and band FAMOUS BLUE RAINCOAT is titled FRAZZ, a great collection of quirky diverse songs that music journalist Stuart Coupe described as a Folk, Rock and Jazz stew that’s all over the place and said he meant it as a total compliment, such is the diversity of songs, styles and sounds on it.
