Starvation and Pup Abandonment: The Flying Fox Crisis

Sunday, 4 February 2024 - 1:00pm to 2:00pm
Davita in the studio

In this episode we speak with Davita Coronel, bat researcher and animal activist as she talks about the crisis currently being faced by flying foxes.

We discuss the starvation and pup abandonment crisis, explain what this is and the negative ramifications, talk about wild animals in urban spaces and how our society's views of bats needs to change in order for us to live harmoniously with them as they move more into built up urban environments from their ever decreasing wild and natural environments.

We also briefly discuss the disappointing news of the decision by the Victorian state government to approve the upcoming duck hunting season despite an upper house inquiry's findings reccomending against it and many submissions urging the government to permanently ban duck hunting.
