Festa della Liberazione 25 aprile

First up we look ahead to Italian Liberation Day, La Festa della Liberazione, celebrating the 81st anniversary of the liberation of Italy from nazi occupation and fascist rule on 25 April 1945. We discuss its relevance today and the contradictions and controversies in Italy under the far-right government of Giorgia Meloni. We look at the contrast between 25 April in Italy and Australia, and ask how we can remember and honour the lessons and legacy of the Partisan resistance in today’s world. We are priviliged to be joined by our special guest Professore Alberto Vannucci with his expert analysis on the current political climate in Italy.

We look into the archives of FILEF’s newspaper in Australia, Nuovo Paese, and find it necessary to highlight the acknowledgment in its pages of the Aboriginal resistance against invasion in Australia. We look back to the March 1988 edition of Nuovo Paese and the first in a series of translations of the work of Mary Coe about the Aboriginal resistance leader Windradyne.
