Networking hate - new media and the rise of the right

In the first 3 months of 2019, hate speech postings globally on Facebook increased 30% with nearly ten and a half million of these posts removed. By Facebook’s own reckoning the past six months has seen a steep rise in the creation of abusive and fake accounts.

Mark Davis from the School of Culture and Communication at the University of Melbourne researches the impacts of networked digital media on
democratic culture. This week he talks about the on-line presence, messaging tactics and influence of the far right in Australia, and explains the ways the US alt-right globalizes its communicational strategies.
