One we’ve been looking forward to, Crissy aka @_mothafunk joins @roukayahs in the studio today to talk about SOLSTICE - a fundraiser for Sudan and Mob Strong happening tonight at the @thegracedarling from 6pm, they’re playing alongside a staked lineup including, @raceragerhymes @oneslashsix @j9.mp3 @tejodcruz @soju_gang @brown.suga.princess and moreee!! Together we get into some of the sounds, histories and communities shaping local black music in this country and listen to a selection of music they’ve picked for the show <3
Born in Chicago and now based in Naarm, Mothafunk is a DJ, journalist, broadcaster and self described Black music historian. With bylines in MixMag AU/NZ and Vice, their work analyses how music & culture impacts society and shapes our world. Their sound moves wholeheartedly across drum and bass, footwork, jersey club and global club music, never delving too far from their foundational inspiration of Chicago house and Detroit Techno. As @bakri2 puts it “whatever the function, Mothafunk has the repertoire to soundtrack it” EXACTLY!
Only a handful of tickets left. Head to @bakri2 for ticket link and more info about tonight.
Funds raised will go directly towards aid for Sudan through Bakri’s ongoing mutual aid campaign as well as Mob Strong Fund.
