Salaam Aysu!

Sunday, 17 October 2021 - 4:00pm to 5:00pm
Mahalla Melbourne

Today on the show we welcome upcoming producer, DJ and co-founder of community hub @mahallamelbourne.
Aysu who grew up in Melbourne, speaks of the influences that her Anatolian background have had on her music. She also tells the journey of Mahalla and the community spaces that she and her childhood friends grew up in.
Aysu serves a mix highlighting ‘Oriental Hip Hop’ whilst blending in some of her personal favourites outside of this genre. Oriental Hip Hop was a hip-hop movement that began as a way of creating an identify for minorities in the diaspora, namely in the German diasporas of the 80s and 90s.
