Jo Meares latest album Dream Hotel is a beautiful melancholy atmospheric collection of songs, poetry set to music and interesting sounds. it's a synthesised, bleak, but glorious terrain, a spiritual album that sounds like a fictitious David Lynch soundtrackfeaturing a cosmic collaboration between Nick Cave & Warren Ellis, Lambchop and Leonard Cohen.
A humble man Jo Meers doesn't talk about his musical past, though I get the impression that he's been a musician for a long time. His bio states that he's a Sydney-based songwriter who spends a large portion of his time in different locations around the globe,in Europe and Australia gathering life experiences and inspiration for the impressionistic and cinematic songs that have comprised his previous four albums.
This new collection, Dream Hotel is the culmination of Jo Meares and his collaborative partner Anth Dymke's explorations within their musical partnership over the last three years; taking inspiration, shaping and re- contextualising each others ideas as they build an album's worth of atmospheric sonic landscapes around Meare's evocative and poetic songs.
