Partly we fear this time of year, and partly we love it! We love the rallying of community, and generosity of our listeners, and the commitment everyone shows to strong, independent airwaves. Celebrate May Day 2019 with us this Wednesday 1 May. Each year, communities from around the world join in celebrating the achievements of the labour movement and show solidarity with the continued struggle for labour rights everywhere. Kick off your May Day at 7am with a serve of solidarity and resistance. Hear perspectives from the frontline of workers' movements, May Day – The Facts! Music from the workers, Reclaiming Australia's radical past, Latin American women in unions, First Nations sovereignty + community activists on all things work and solidarity. Behind Closed Doors is a new show providing a safe space to explore the world of sex work. Your peer hosts will chat with a wide variety of guests, focusing on those voices that are rarely heard. We’ll talk to workers and allies alike, making sure to always put the interests of sex workers first. Workers will rally right around the country on Wednesday 10 April and at 3CR we'll be bringing listeners live coverage of the Melbourne rally. Sunday 31 March is International Day of Trans Visibility. 3CR joins Transgender Victoria for a panel discussion on Trans Voices of Colour hosted by Mama Alto and Sally Goldner. Live at Hares & Hyenas, 63 Johnston St Fitzroy, 12 - 1pm, broadcast on Out of the Pan and supported by a Victorian Government Pride Events and Festivals grant. All members of the Community Radio Federation are invited to attend our Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 27 March at 6.30pm. If you're a subscriber - that means YOU! The meeting will be held upstairs at the station at 21 Smith Street, Fitzroy. Celebrate International Women's Day this year with 3CR! On Friday 8 March we’ll bring you 24 hours of non-stop radio by, for and about women. Join our fabulous women and gender queer broadcasters as we talk with talented Melbourne activists, songwriters, storytellers and musicians making a difference. Between 5.30 and 6.30pm we’ll broadcast live from the IWD rally at the State Library in the city.  Check out the schedule for the day here.

The community of passionate members that founded 3CR made some tough decisions. They committed themselves and a growing community of listeners to back their vision of owning our station, and remaining independent of government or corporate influence. They did this by fundraising brick by brick, with working bees, door knocking and on-air drives and it is with the surety of this ownership that 3CR survives today. We are evolving and growing with the challenges of our times, driven by the energy, politics and passion of our volunteers and members who turn up and do the work - week in, week out. Every year 3CR marks Invasion Day with special programming that gives voice to the ongoing struggle for land justice in this country. Our shows cover the real history of Australia, cross to local events and rallies around town, and celebrate the survival and culture of Aboriginal people. Always was, always will be, Aboriginal land – Abolish Australia Day! Tune into 3CR on Saturday 26 January from 9.30am to 4pm for coverage of the 2019 Invasion Day events and issues. This Sunday 20 January tune into a live broadcast at 12 til 1pm from the commemoration of the two freedom fighters Tunnerminnerwait and Maulboyheenner who were executed 177 years ago.

The Tunnerminnerwait and Maulboyheenner Commemoration Committee will hold a public ceremony to honour the indigenous people who during the colonisation process, were killed for protecting their lands, their families, their culture and a way of life they had practised for over 40,000 years.The commemoration will take place at the Tunnerminnerwait & Maulboyheenner monument on the corner of Victoria and Franklin Streets, Melbourne.
