About Billabong Beats

Billabong Beats on 3CR Community Radio concept is modelled on a traditional style “camp” & Aboriginal Customary Lore in that our philosophy of respect is based on the Sacred Fire (116 Aust. Constitution) which is corner stone to our production.  The Sacred Fire opens a portal to The Dream-Time & connects the listener to the Lore of the land & to the Spirit of the land.  Billabong Beats intends to give a voice to both Western Kulin & Kulin First Nations Peoples.

Billabong Beats is about bringing people together in the “spirit of peace” & de’tente to encourage healing pathways associated with Fire & the environment. The health of our environment can also reflect the state of mind.  We also intend to highlight the issues that affects not only First Nations Peoples but everybody when it comes to social justice, human rights & the environment.

THE WATER HOLE/RIVER
The Water Hole is where we meet & profile a different Spirit Animal/Totem every week… We will examine the meta-physical & physical nature of each animal spirit that visits the local water hole/river as well as the ones that live in it.  We will also investigate the state of their local environment in which they live & talk to locals.

THE SACRED FIRE
The Sacred Fire is a segment where the main “business” is conducted – Philosophy, Astrology, health, environment, current affairs or “thought for the day”- plus issues that affect aboriginal peoples such as; water, cultural heritage, Treaty & other Social Justice matters faced by First Nations Peoples.  “The Sacred Fire” segment also brings people together.  We also meet with local guest artists/performers.

TRIBAL VOICES
Tribal Voices is a segment on Billabong Beats that engages with Elders to create a dialogue on the current political climate & invite them to voice their thoughts on Social Justice, Land & Cultural issues.
