What was it like to live in the Abbotsford Convent? Patricia Sykes was an orphan there and now as a poet gives a sense of it in ‘The Abbotsford Mysteries’. Francesca Rendle-Short had a very strong motherly presence. Her mother was a moral crusader who was very vocal in the burning and banning of books. Her fictionalised account of growing up is told in ‘Bite Your Tongue’. Both books are published by Spinifex.
