Festival of Critical Comedy presented by Awkward Giraffe

12 Nov 2023 - 5:00pm to 7:00pm

Awkward Giraffe presents the inaugural Festival Of Critical Comedy in the heart of Melbourne.

Critical comedy is designed to educate, make you think, raise hackles, speak truth to power and rail vociferously against the rampant hypocrisy of those who deign to rule over us all.

Awkward Giraffe is a not-for-profit organisation created to support comedy that sticks its head out. It was formed in the aftermath of the untimely death of Eurydice Dixon in 2018 and strives to keep her spirit alive in the comedy community.

Can laughter make the world a better place? Or is it in the words of Jeremy Dixon, festival curator and Eurydice’s father, "the opiate of the defeated"?

The festival's closing show is a comedy debate featuring Dr Joseph Toscano, host of 3CR's Radical Australia as the adjudicator, and Australia's most cynical and utopian comedians.
