Martin Newell has released over 30 albums, many singles, EPs and a few box sets since the early 70's with his first band Plod, a glam rock outfit  and a solo single  in 1980 called Young Jobless followed by an  album Barricades and Angels with a bunch of musicians who were called Stray Trolleys.

Martin is  a psychedelic minstrel musically in a similar vein to Robyn Hitchcock, Syd Barrett and Ray Davies and now mostly releases music under the moniker The Cleaners From Venus.

Martin Newell has also published around 20 poetry books and presents an internet radio show on colne radio located near his home in Wivenhoe, Essex in the UK.
