HELP - WEB STREAMING AT 3CR MELBOURNE
The Wrong Player Opens
When using players other than Windows Media Player (with Orban plugin) the
link you click on points to a ".pls" (WinAmp Playlist File). For this
to work the player used for WinAmp playlists (which may not be WinAmp) has to
be able to play a ShoutCast / IceCast "HTTP/ICY" stream and decode
aacPlus audio. Compatible players are listed on the streaming
links page.
Sometimes this association can be broken. For example, if you install or update
an incompatible player you may inadvertently allow it to take over playing of
".pls" files and streams. That will still work for some content, but
not for stations like 3CR, which stream in aacPlus from a ShoutCast server.
To fix the problem :-
- Check that you browser is set to open the correct player with ".pls"
items.
- Verify that Windows associates "'.pls" files with the right player.
In 'My Computer' choose Tools / Folder Options / File Types and scroll through
the list. The setting can be altered by clicking Change.
Orban Plugin for Windows Media Player - Windows 2000 Problem
The Orban Plugin is designed for Windows 2000, Server 2003, and XP. However,
sometimes the installer fails on Windows 2000 due to the absence of a file called
"gdiplus.dll". Windows Server 2003 and XP include the file themslves.
This file provides enhanced graphics capabilities in Windows (nothing to do
with audio!) and many applications use it and install their own copy. Sometimes
the file is installed within a common location where other software can access
it, sometimes not.
To date, the Orban Plugin does not provide "gdiplus.dll", so it may
be necessary to install it manually.
Download a copy from DLL-files.com,
and copy it to C:\WINNT\System32\. The Orban Plugin should then install and
run correctly.
