Leave it in the permafrost! Stopping uranium in Greenland and Canada.

Saturday, 6 June 2015 - 10:00am to 10:30am

Greenland overturned a ban on uranium mining in a controversial parliamentary vote in 2013, and an Australian company has been leading the charge by pursuing a uranium mine project at Kvanefjeld. Sara Olsvig, leader of the opposition party in the Greenland parliament Inuit Ataqatigiit speaks at the World Uranium Symposium in Quebec City, Canada in April 2015.  We also hear from Hilu Tagoona, from the Inuit community of Baker Lake, Nunavut, Canada- representing 'The People of Nunavut Can Rise Up'. The people of Baker Lake have had a recent win with the Nunavut Impact Review Board concluding that uranium mining will not be allowed to proceed at this time, effectively shelving Areva's plans to mine at Kiggavik, 70km away.
