The Nuclear Fuel Cycle Royal Commission in SA

Saturday, 4 April 2015 - 10:00am to 10:30am

Nuclear-free campaigners Dr.Jim Green (Friends of the Earth and WISE International) and Karina Lester (Yankunytjatjara and Aboriginal Language Worker with Uni of SA) join the show this week to take a closer look at what we can expect to be investigated and the issues and ideas that we will have to work hard to ensure make it into the inquiry.

In February SA premier Jay Weatherhill announced a Nuclear Fuel Cycle Royal Commission in SA (http://nuclearrc.sa.gov.au/). The draft terms of reference only included looking at the potential for developing uranium enrichment, nuclear power and waste storage and omitted any discussion of the legacy of nuclear activities that continue to affect people and the environment in SA.

Due to public submissions they have been expanded slightly to include consideration of the impacts on the economy including adverse impacts on other sectors, the environment including lessons learnt from past milling extraction and processing and community including regional, remote and aboriginal communities and their health and safety.
