Tuesdays 6.30 - 7pm
Australian Arabic women’s voices are seldom heard in the mainstream media or get equal voice in their community media to focus on women's issues. Much of the media’s attention seems to focus on sensationalist stories associated with Arabic women’s headdress. Yet there is great diversity, talent, abilities and achievements amongst Arabic women which remain completely obscure. On the other hand Arabic women also face numerous barriers to participation and inclusion in Australian society in general and their stories never reach the public domain.
Kalemat program promises to be a great avenue for expressing Australian Arabic women’s opinions, views, struggles, challenges and triumphs. It will be in almost bilingual interactive format offering both Arabic speaking and English audiences the opportunity to hear and participate in the program.
Kalemat program represent the newly established foundation, the Australian Arab Women’s Foundations (AAWF Inc). The Australian Arab Women’s Foundation (AAWF Inc) is a non-religious, non-sectarian and non-political organisation.
