Banyule Community Health and Banyule Nillumbik Primary Care Alliance will host an exhibition featuring new works by twenty artists from Araluen Centre’s Studio Art Program. The exhibition explores the connection between good health and meaningful activity. The event will be opened at 6pm by Jenny Macklin MP (Federal Minister for Families, Housing, Community Services & Indigenous Affairs) and noted artist David Moore on Tuesday 8th June 2010. “A Picture of Health” follows an 18 month collaboration between Banyule Community Health and Banyule Nillumbik Primary Care Alliance aimed at improving access to health services for people with intellectual disabilities living in the community. This exhibition extends the work of the partnership beyond the provision of medical care by encouraging physical activity, emotional well-being and social connectedness. Araluen Centre provides services to adults with intellectual disabilities that focus on building self esteem and independence. Araluen’s artists are gaining a reputation for producing work that is expressive, vibrant and fresh. The paintings and drawings demonstrate the positive impact the creative process and community inclusion can have upon individual and community well-being. Address: Banyule Community Health, 21 Alamein Rd, West Heidelberg (MEL 19 E12) Exhibition runs: 2 June - 2 July Further Information: Araluen Centre p 9439 2805 or
