The muslim community in the Western Suburbs has organised a Prayer Service for Peace on Friday 16 January from 12.30 pm to 3 pm at Werribee Secondary School Oval, Duncans Road, Werribee
(Melway Ref 206 B9).
Participants will then peacefuly march to the Honourable Julia Gillard’s electoral office to ask the Labour government to speak out for the people of Gaza and call for an immediate end to the violence.
“Gaza is suffering from a humanitarian crisis. Its population is trapped without electricity and water. Food supplies are critically low, and there is relentless bombing. Civilians cannot get out, and much needed aid
cannot get in adequately. Our government should not condone this situation,” Sheikh Issa, Imam of the Virgin
Mary Mosque in Hoppers Crossing, said.
The senior UN aid official for Gaza appealed to the international community to protect Gaza's civilians, saying nowhere in the territory of 1.5 million people is safe any longer with the conflict becoming "a test
of our humanity.
People of all religions and beliefs are encouraged to attend and join the cause for peace.
