Calling all women, men, teens, adults, parents, healthcare professionals, and residents of the Bass Coast Shire.
One in seven girls between 12 and 20 will be the victim of sexual assault or rape. At least 200 women are sexually assaulted every day in Australia.
The topic of how best to protect women from these crimes is often discussed. However, an equally important question is how we can prevent these crimes from occurring and the attitudes behind them developing in the first place.
Come to Cowes and participate in a discussion about sexual assault and rape in Australia, rape statistics, conviction rates, rape culture and what people can do to educate each other about preventing violence against women.
A variety of speakers will tackle the topic, including a counsellor from Gippsland Centre Against Sexual Assault (CASA), a advocate for young women's rights from Wonthaggi, as well as other local health care professionals.
The forum will also include small group discussions about the ways in which people in our community can educate about and prevent sexual assault and violence against women from occurring.

As one of the country’s oldest community gardens, the Ringwood Community Garden provides residents of Maroondah, Knox, and surrounding suburbs the opportunity to grow heritage organic vegetables in a sustainable, supportive community environment.
Admission $6.
Fresh, organically grown produce will be on sale.
Located at the end of Selkirk Avenue, Wantirna. Melways 63 J4 adjacent to the J W Manson Reserve off Wantirna Road.

Community radio station 3CR held a "TRAMATHON" to raise $ for the locked out trammies.
3CR also had a daily update on the dispute from the depots like Brunswick at midday.

Fundraiser for the Zapatista Community Hacia la Esperanza
The Zapatistas, masked rebels of the Lacondon Jungle have revealed themselves in the award winning 2009 film directed by Alberto Cortés: Corazon del Tiempo
In La Esperanza de San Pedro, Chiapas, in the midst of the Zapatista struggle, Sonia, a member of the community, is about to be married. Her dowry, a cow, has been delivered. Her boyfriend’s family has been spoken to… However, Sonia is in love with another: an insurgent. Now, the EZLN has a problem on their hands and the entire community must come together so that the voice of its members can be heard and respected; and so that duty can be overcome by love.
This screening is a fundraiser for the indigenous Zapatista communities that feature in the film. Since 1994 these communities have been supporting themselves totally autonomously from the Mexican Government. Despite being amongst the poorest people in the world, they run their own schools, hospitals and agricultural training centres which they make available for all people in the region, not just their supporters. Because they refuse to accept corrupt government officials, Zapatista communities suffer form harassment by paramilitaries and the army. Political and material support is urgently needed to defend their project of local democracy.
The film will be screened for the first time in Australia at Trades Hall, 54 Victoria St Carlton, on Thursday 11th February at 7:00pm.
The film and its context will be introduced by PhD candidate Tristan Epstein, recently returned from fieldwork in Southern Mexico.

On the 6th anniversary of the day TJ Hickey was impaled on a fence while
being chased by Redfern Police. You are invited to honour his memory,
continue the struggle to stop all deaths in custody and demand an end to the
practice where police misconduct is investigated internally by police.
Support Gail Hickey who will lodge a complaint with UN Human Rights
Committee seeking findings that Australia is in breach of its human rights
obligations in failing to independently investigate TJ Hickey’s death.
