This week on Earth Matters, environment programs that try to encourage sustainable land use, in the country and in our cities. Like many conservation programs, Landcare was hit hard in the last federal budget. But this wasn’t a cut to save money. The cut to Landcare was almost equal to the funding needed to pay for the Abbott government’s proposed ‘Green Army’, under which young, unemployed ‘volunteers’ will be ‘trained’ to undertake conservation projects.
