Marriage equality - the survey, social media and the 'yes' campaign

Thursday, 23 November 2017 - 6:00pm to 6:30pm

The same sex marriage postal survey declared a clear 'yes'. Truckloads of commentary followed, trying to explain and unpick the results and what they meant for on-the-ground politics, and for understanding the social and cultural fabric of contemporary Australia.

This week, we talk to Adam Noble, director of digital communication for the national Marriage Equality campaign, and look at the role that different types of communication played in securing support - the way that campaigners on the yes side were mobilizing, through a variety of communication platforms, particularly social media, to take their case to the public.

Thursday 6:00pm to 6:30pm
This show casts a critical eye on the myriad ways in which we communicate with each other in our increasingly interconnected, multi-media platform world. Each week we mix down the who, the what, the where, and the how of particular communication events, messages, trends and technologies, and then consider: what impacts and what consequences?
