Making music in divided cities, part 1

Thursday, 26 October 2017 - 6:00pm to 6:30pm

Think of an urban environment, divided along ethnic and religious lines, the result of prolonged conflict. That's Mostar, a city in the Bosnia Herzogovina region in the former Yugoslavia just after the war in mid 1990s. And then think about a young muscian taking on the job of using music to open up a space for peacemaking and reconciliation. That's Gillian Howell, clarinet player and educator. And in this edition of CMD we hear about her efforts to engage young people in making music in this post-war divided city.
